Redfern lives and works in East London, although born in Fife and a former student of Edinburgh College of Art A colourist with an innate lyricism, her canvases seem to ebb and flow with an exuberant and painterly joie de vivre. Sunset is one of a recent suite of five etchings - she prefers to work in series -- which relate to her current painting. Her prints are editioned by Hope and Sufferance Press (Simon Marsh) in Camberwell.
'Though most of her recent paintings could be described in traditional terms as figures in a landscape, one does not perceive them that way. While one part of your mind is perfectly aware of their formal nature, another and perhaps more important part is away, coasting abstraction.'
