Iwo-Jima
Iwo-Jima

American aircraft carrier, named after the Pacific island which the Americans re-captured from the Japanese in the Second World War. As with all of Finlay's aircraft carriers, the sculpture serves also as a bird-table. This one carries an additional note: 'Homage to the Villa d'Este - a reference to that famous Renaissance garden with its avenue of stone ships'.

This work features in the Inside The Garden At Little Sparta exhibition.
